Our MissionOur mission is to prepare the YouthBuild trainee to be responsible in all areas of his/her life so that they can get and keep a job. YouthBuild is designed to assist the trainee in becoming aware of the day-to-day obstacles in their lives and think about what they can do to overcome them.
Who We AreYouthBuild is a comprehensive program that is designed for young men and women who are ready to make serious changes in their lives. Participants attend the program 30 hours per week, over the course of 12 months. They rotate between attending school to work towards their GED or high school diplomas and working on construction job sites. On the weeks that they attend school, they also attend Life Skills workshops that address a variety of topics such as health, leadership development, and independent living skills. In addition, participants receive case management and counseling support through the program.YouthBuild is designed to work with low-income youth facing multiple obstacles in their lives. Our participants struggle with a wide range of issues, including being on probation, substance abuse problems, not having a drivers license, no work experience, housing evictions, child care, low self esteem, learning disabilities, and gang activity. When our participants graduate from YouthBuild, we provide intensive job placement assistance. We place many of our graduates in union jobs. Others decide to continue their education by attending college or pursuing additional vocational education.
